Top lifesavers: HDC chairman Bernard Baldwin handed over the prize
at Horsham Lifesaving and Lifeguard Club's annual award ceremony.

Distinction For Successful Five

LIFESAVERS celebrated a 'challenging' but 'hugely successful' year at an annual award ceremony at Horsham's old town hall in Market Square on Thursday January 4th.
Horsham Lifesaving Club handed out prizes for outstanding members, and chairman David Slade paid tribute to the 'hard work and dedication' from his team throughout 2006.
Brain Lopez, 47, picked up the most votes for the Club Member Of The Year award, and was handed his prize by the guest of honour, Horsham District Council chairman Bernard Baldwin.
David said: "Members felt Brian had made the most praiseworthy or significant contribution to the club this year, and he is a very deserving winner of the award for his efforts in teaching and learning."
Special congratulations went to five members who achieved distinction grades in the national lifesaving practical exams this year. The successful candidates were Dean Wright, 23, Tom Strudley, 19, Alice Tebb, and Julian Henry, both 18, and Joe Mason, 17.
And the Endeavour Cup was handed jointly to Alice Tebb and Anna-Maria Braddock, 14.
notwthstanding an important county hockey commitment, nevertheless still managed to get to most of the sessions to take or assist with her class.
"Throughout the year Anna-Maria has rarely missed a training session, particularly throughout the summer holiday period when she was almost the sole attendee from her class."
Horsham Lifesaving and Lifeguard Club meets at the Pavilions in the Park leisure centre, in Horsham Park, on Thursdays at 8pm.
