A FIRST FOR SUSSEX - TWICE!

Makeisha Birdine, a member of Worthing Life Guard Corps is the FIRST and YOUNGEST person in Sussex to achieve the new Bronze Medallion. Aged twelve she also holds all the Rookie Awards, Lifesaving 1,2 & 3 and Life Support 2. She owes a great deal of her success to Heather Herridge, her trainer. Other activities include swimming with Worthing Swimming Club, scuba diving and sea cadets. Her latest achievement, together with other competitors from Worthing Life Guard Corps, was to win the Worthing Life Guard Corps Rookie Championship (the annual county competition run by the Club). The Rookie team won all four of the elements in their competition. The challenge for Lifesavers now is to find other areas that this youngster, together with others of her age, can continue to achieve until they reach the ripe old age of 15.
