Water Skills - 9.00pm to 10.00pm

Open Water skills training is normally carried out from June to early September at Southwater Lake on Monday evenings from 6.30pm until 8.00pm on an ad hoc basis depending upon numbers - and the weather!

Teaching objectives and course duration

The primary objective is to teach participants lifesaving and life support skills consistent with a standard to pass the basic Life Support and Bronze Medallion examinations of the RLSS.
A minimum age of 13 (or nearing) normally applies to participants but please do bear in mind our finishing time if young people are expressing interest.
Skill acquisition takes about 6 months but will vary depending upon the abilities and attendance records of those participating.
Other higher awards are regularly taken as most members usually continue after the basic Bronze Medallion.
The club normally processes about 100 successful examinees each year and has produced the highest number of Distinction exam successes in Sussex Branch each year for a number of years.
We have a formal Presentation Evening with a Guest of Honour each January when all the awards and competition successes from the previous year are formally recognised.
