Facilities
Numbers under tuition at any one time are dictated by pool space and the number of trainers/teachers available. A class will usually be formed when we have a minimum of 6 people on the waiting list and a teacher is available. Each class would normally not exceed 8 people.
Both theory and practical elements of the exams are compulsory and thus regular attendance at both sessions on Thursdays is essential.Accreditation for other qualifications
The standard Bronze Medallion can be used as part of the GCSE PE. This and other awards and activities can also be used in achieving Duke of Edinburgh standards.
Cost
The facilities are hired from Horsham District Council through D C Leisure who operate the centre. Their charges are under regular review and as such our fees to cover the cost of the hiring are levied quarterly in advance and are variable depending upon costs incurred by the club and the numbers participating. An annual club membership and RLSS membership fee is payable on joining and at each successive January.
A typical Bronze Medallion course with us might last 6 months and cost around £100 for an adult and £90 for a student.
For the higher awards additional reference books are needed at additional cost.Other activities
Annual internal lifesaving 'Set Piece' and 'Incident' competitions take place in the autumn and we try also to enter competitors in the RLSS Sussex Branch competitions.
Many members usually remain with the club to take higher awards and, eventually, some students assist with teaching others. There tends to be a turnover of these student teachers as in due course many go off to University or other higher education.
When enquires demand, we offer a 'one off' 6 week course to accommodated those wishing to train for and take the National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches.
NPLQ Courses - National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (minimum age 16) - are handled by The Pavilions staff separately from our club activities. However, earlier qualifications offered by our Club normally points to a reduced number of hours training being required for NPLQ. 2007 is our Silver Jubilee Year and we anticipate that a number of celebratory events will take place throughout the year.New Members
New members are always welcome but there is usually a short waiting list as explained above. We try to run courses for adults separately but only when numbers demand.Child Protection
All teachers and adults have the standard police Disclosure Certificate clearance.
'Lifesavers' - (The Royal Life Saving Society) requires us to declare the following in this site:-
"It is the policy of Lifesavers to safeguard the welfare of children and all others involved in it's activities by protecting them from physical, sexual and emotional harm."
